GROUP STAGE

Eight groups of four teams play a "Round Robin" to determine progress to the Knock-out Stage.

The two top teams from each group will progress to the Knock-out Stage.

The progress from the Round Robin is determined on the following basis:

Points are awarded: 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.

The ranking of teams in the groups shall be determined as follows:

a)  Greater number of points obtained in all group matches

b)  Total goal difference in all group matches

c)  Greater number of goals in all group matches

If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above criteria, their place in the group shall be determined as follows:

d)  Greater number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned.

e)  Goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned.

f)  Greater number of goals scored in the group matches between the two teams

g)  Drawing of lots by the Organising Committee for the FIFA World Cup.

KNOCK-OUT STAGE

The first 2 teams in each of the Groups progress to the Knock-Out Stage of the Finals.

For the Knock-out Stage, the winning team at the end of normal time progresses to the next round.  If the scores are level at the end of normal time, then two periods of 15 minutes each way extra time will be played.  If during the additional 30 minutes, no team scores, then the match will be decided by the taking of penalty kicks in accordance with the Laws of the Game.  (Best of 5 penalties each team, followed by sudden death penalties.)
